CANF's Namodenoson Shows Promising Results In Decompensated Liver Cirrhosis Under Compassionate Use

Can-Fite Biopharma Ltd. (CANF), a biotechnology company developing drugs for oncological and inflammatory diseases, announced that there was improvement in a patient with decompensated liver cirrhosis following treatment with its investigational drug Nemodenoson.

The patient, a 63-year-old woman with a history of decompensated primary biliary cirrhosis has been undergoing treatment with Namodenoson for one year, at the Soroka Medical Center in Israel under compassionate use.

Decompensated cirrhosis is defined as an acute deterioration in liver function in a patient with cirrhosis and is characterized by jaundice, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatorenal syndrome, or variceal hemorrhage.

The company noted that before starting Namodenoson, despite optimal medical care for her condition, she developed ascites and was hospitalized for acute variceal bleeding. Now, she shows improvement in liver function tests, hematological parameters, and FibroScan values, and has not experienced any decompensation events since beginning Namodenoson treatment.

Nemodenoson is currently in a phase IIb trial in subjects with biopsy-confirmed MASH (Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis).

CANF has traded in a range of $1.81 to $4.48 in the last 1 year. The stock closed Friday's trading (June 28, 2024) at $2.58, up 0.78%
