Can-Fite BioPharma Ltd. (CANF), announced on Tuesday that a patient experienced the disappearance of episodes of decompensated liver cirrhosis following treatment with Namodenoson under a compassionate use program.
The patient, who had suffered from severe symptoms such as fatigue, edema, and esophageal variceal bleeding, experienced significant improvement after 20 months of Namodenoson therapy.
Notably, the patient showed no further gastrointestinal bleeding, gradual resolution of ascites, and a decline in liver stiffness, the company added.
Additionally, elevated globulin levels, a marker of advanced liver disease, started to decrease.
Dr. Ohad Etzion, Chief of Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases at Soroka Medical Center, Israel, commented, "The positive response to Namodenoson is extremely encouraging. With very few options for treating decompensated liver disease, Namodenoson could provide a much-needed solution, offering patients more time until a liver transplant becomes available."
Namodenoson, a small molecule drug that selectively targets the A3 adenosine receptor, is currently undergoing a Phase III trial for hepatocellular carcinoma, a Phase IIb trial for MASH, and a Phase IIa trial for pancreatic cancer.
CANF closed Friday's (Feb.14 2025) trading at $1.53 up by 1.32%. In premarket trading Tuesday, the stock is up by 7.84% at $1.65.
