Puerto Rico-based King Tallow LLC is recalling approximately 353 pounds of Grass fed Beef Tallow Artisan cooking oil as it was processed, packaged, and labeled without undergoing federal inspection, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The company does not hold a federal inspection grant and is not authorized to produce products intended for human consumption.
The recall was initiated following the FSIS' identification of the issue after receiving an anonymous consumer complaint about the product being sold without the federal inspection mark at a retail store in Carolina, Puerto Rico.
The investigation revealed that the company had purchased beef fat from an FSIS-regulated facility, processed it into tallow, packaged it in jars, and relabeled it without undergoing FSIS inspection.
The products include a nutrition facts label, which may mislead consumers into thinking they are safe for human consumption.
The recalled product comes in 10.5-oz jars containing "Grass fed Beef Tallow Artisan cooking oil by King Tallow", produced from 2023 through May 2025.
The product was distributed to retail stores in Puerto Rico and does not carry the USDA mark of inspection.
There were no reports from the consumers for adverse reactions in relation to the recall. The company advises consumers concerned about a reaction to contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some of the product may still be in consumers' pantries. Retailers are advised not to sell these items. Consumers are urged to either dispose of the products or return them to the store where they were purchased.
In recent recalls, around 22,000 pounds of select beef and pork products were called back in early June, citing various reasons including misbranding and undeclared allergens.
