Fuentes Farms Recalls Fresh Cucumbers For Salmonella Risk

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that Texas-based Fuentes Farms is recalling 71 Boxes of Fresh Cucumbers due to potential contamination with Salmonella.

The impacted product includes 40 lbs of 1-1/9-bushel boxes, Fuentes Farm Label with Lot number 357.

The recalled product was distributed in Texas by local vendors at the Flea Markets in the McAllen and Alamo Areas between May 31 and June 3.

The recall was initiated after a routine testing, which found the bacteria in the finished products.

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

Healthy individuals typically experience symptoms like fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.

In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and lead to severe conditions such as infected arteries, heart infections, or arthritis.

However, no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the recall.

The company has stopped production and distributing the product while it works with the FDA to find out what caused the issue.

Customers are urged to stop using or selling the impacted cucumbers.

The company noted that the recall is not linked to any current food outbreaks.

In May, Bedner Growers Inc. and various companies had called back fresh cucumbers and related products following a multistate Salmonella outbreak that sickened 45 people from 18 states as of May 30.

The impacted whole cucumbers were grown by Bedner Growers and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc.

In another development, August Egg Co. in early June recalled around 1.70 million dozen brown eggs sold through Walmart and other stores following a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak that sickened nearly 79 across 7 states.
