At the same time, the eyes are susceptible to hundreds of different diseases. According to the World Health Organization, more than 2.2 billion people worldwide experience some form of vision impairment or blindness. Aging is a significant risk factor for eye disorders, and one such condition is macular degeneration. Also called age-related macular degeneration (AMD), it is a progressive eye disease for which there is currently no cure, and it exists in two forms: wet and dry.
