Wouldn't you shed tears of joy if your investments soared? Those are emotional tears, released in response to strong feelings of happiness or sadness. In addition, humans produce two other types of tears: basal tears, which keep the eyes lubricated and healthy, and reflex tears, which are triggered by irritants to protect the eyes. In a normal eye, basal tear secretion occurs at a rate of about 1-2?microliters per minute, a small but vital flow that maintains eye comfort and health.
When this tear production is disrupted, it can lead to dry eye disease, a condition affecting hundreds of millions of people worldwide. This disease is characterised by insufficient moisture and lubrication in the anterior surface of the eye, leading to dryness, inflammation, pain, discomfort, irritation, diminished quality of life, and, in severe cases, permanent vision impairment.
