IMAX Corp.(IMAX) and Warner Bros. Pictures, unit of Time Warner Inc. (TWX) announced that the studio's summer box office hit, The Dark Knight, shattered opening box office records on 94 IMAX screens during its debut. The stated that IMAX release contributed $6.3 million of $158.4 million on 94 North American screens this weekend.
The company also specified that film's worldwide IMAX opening total was $7 million. Internationally, the picture generated about 725,000 from 15 IMAX theatres.
The company expects to open 24 more IMAX locations in coming weeks.
