Continental Airlines (CAL) rose in pre-market trading, up nearly 3 percent. The climb came after the company announced the retirement of its senior vice president of customer experience and reported a rise in its July load factor.
The stock was up 37 cents just before 8:50 am ET, advancing to $13.41. If pre-market gains hold, the stock will pare Friday's losses.
Continental Airlines reported that its traffic in July 2008 increased 1.6% from July 2007, on a capacity increase of 4.3%.
The airline said its July traffic rose 1.6% to 9.20 billion revenue passenger miles or RPMs from 9.06 billion RPMs in the same period last year.
The airline's July available seat miles or capacity was 10.93. billion, up 4.3% from 10.48 billion in the prior year period.
Load factor for July 2008 was 84.2%, down 2.2 points from 86.4% in July 2007.
Continental Airlines said David Grizzle, Senior Vice President for Customer Experience will retire from the company effective September 19, 2008 to pursue other commercial and charitable activities.
David served Continental Airlines for the last 23 years in different senior management positions. The company said Grizzle will continue to serve as senior vice president customer experience until the effective date of his retirement.
