Thursday, Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (HEPH), at the World Congress on Insulin Resistance Syndrome, said, based on the early stage clinical trial, its investigational oral drug candidate, Triolex, appears to decrease the inflammatory markers and improved insulin sensitivity in obese insulin resistant subjects.
The additional data supported that the investigational drug is safe and well tolerated and significantly could improve insulin sensitivity, lower fasting blood glucose and insulin levels in obese insulin resistant subjects, when treated orally with 5 or 10 milligrams, twice daily for 28 days, as compared to placebo-treated subjects.
The company said that, Triolex, if developed successfully, could regulate both glucose homeostasis and inflammation, and thereby be a safer and better insulin sensitizer, which could be also beneficial in mitigating serious consequences associated with uncontrolled inflammation in cardiovascular disease.
The company said that if successfully developed, Triolex had the potential to be an anti-inflammatory drug for type 2 diabetes, without side effects of weight gain, edema and increased cardiovascular events, associated with the current Glitazone class of insulin sensitizing agents.
The stock closed Wednesday at $1.27 on the Nasdaq.
