Monday, Interserve Plc (IRV.L), a service, maintenance and building group, said that it was awarded a £32 million extension contract for Agecroft Prison Management Limited, to design and build additional prisoner accommodation at HMP Forest Bank.
The company said, that the new 232 cells are to be built in two wings, together with additional education and prisoner support facilities, an extension to the main prison kitchen, improvements to the visitor reception center and extended visits area, plus further physical activity space for prisoners.
The construction is scheduled to begin immediately and the houseblock accommodation would be ready for occupation in November 2009.
The HMP Forest Bank in Salford, a Category B prison, which currently has 800 cells, was built by Interserve under its PFI contract in 1999. The company since 1999 has constructed five more prisons and is expecting to open the new prison HMP Addiewell in Scotland by December 2008.
Currently, the stock is down GBP 0.76, trading at GBP 303.49 on the London Stock Exchange.
