Gammon, PTC Evince Interest To Set Up Cogeneration Power Plants In Punjab

According to media reports, fifteen companies, including Gammon, Power Trading Corporation or PTC, and Triveni Engineering have evinced interest in setting up cogeneration power plants in the nine loss-making co-operative sugar mills in Punjab. These mills are situated Ajnala, Batala, Bhogpur, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Morinda, Nawanshahar, Ludhiana and Nakodar and their accumulated losses were around Rs.502 crores

Cheema Boilers, Spary Engineering, Indo-Green Field, Sariya industries are the other runners for this project, a senior official of Punjab State Federation of Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd., or Sugarfed, reportedly said.

Punjab had mooted a modernization-cum-revival plan of nine sugar mills on build-own-operate-and-transfer basis at an investment of Rs.865 crores. .

Sugarfed is planning to lease the mills to successful bidders for a period of fifteen years, the official added.

Currently, the sugar production of these nine mills varies between 1,000 tonnes and 2,500 tonnes crushing per day per unit (TCD) and the viability of these units cannot be obtained until capacity is increased to 5,000 TCD.
