Aussie shows slight strength against majors following Q3 PPI

The Australian currency gained slightly against its major opponents on Monday morning in Asia, following the release of the third quarter producer price index. The aussie rose as high as 0.6984 against the US dollar, 1.9273 against the euro and 71.03 against the Japanese yen by 8:40 pm ET, compared to last week's closing values of 0.6889, 1.9497 and 69.97, respectively. Currently, the Australian dollar is worth 0.6968 against the greenback, 1.9336 against the euro and 70.99 against the yen.

Australia's third quarter producer price index rose 5.6% annually, compared to a 4.7% gain in the second quarter, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said today. The report added that the producer prices grew 2.0% quarter-to-quarter in the third quarter.
