A top military official of NATO discussed with Afghan government incidents of civilian casualties in military operations in the country.
Admiral Giampaolo Di Paola, chairman of NATO's military committee, said at a news conference in Kabul that a solution to the problems faced by Afghanistan requires a long-term and concerted strategy.
He arrived in Afghanistan Tuesday to discuss the country's security situation with NATO and Afghan officials.
"There are problems in a few areas, but there is also peace in the rest of Afghanistan," Di Paola told reporters Thursday.
His briefing comes a day after coalition forces killed nine Afghan soldiers in an erroneous air strike in the troubled eastern province of Khost.
