Bush pledges support in India's fight against terrorism

U.S. President George Bush has pledged the full support of the United States in India's fight against terrorism.

The words of solidarity from the White House in the wake of the Mumbai attacks came Saturday afternoon on the American leader's return from Camp David presidential retreat after the Thanksgiving holiday.

"Terror will not have the final word," Bush said.

He expressed confidence that India's multi ethnic democracy is capable of withstanding this trial. "We pledge the full support of the United States as India investigates these attacks, brings the guilty to justice and sustains its democratic way of life," Bush added.

Earlier, Bush held a video-teleconference on the Mumbai terror attacks with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, David Mulford, the U.S. Ambassador to India, Paul Folmsbee, the U.S. Consul General in Mumbai, and others on the national security team.

Bush said his administration is working to ensure that American citizens in India are safe, and added that he kept president-elect Barack Obama informed since the attack began on Wednesday.

He mourned those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks.
