NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan killed an Afghan policeman evading a security check in the southern part of the country, while 17 suspected militants were killed in the east.
The policeman was killed Saturday as soldiers opened fire on his vehicle, which tried to speed away in Lashkargah, the provincial capital of Helmend province, the NATO said in a statement.
One passenger was also killed in the shooting.
The militants were killed in separate operations by US-led coalition forces on Saturday.
16 insurgents were killed in an operation targeting senior commanders of a pro-Taliban militant group in the Sorobi district of Kabul province, the US military said in a statement. They included one of the militant leaders who orchestrated a fatal attack on French soldiers in August.
A raid in the southeastern province of Paktia resulted in the death of one insurgent and arrest of ten others, the statement added.
Meanwhile, Afghan defense ministry said its soldier was killed in Kandahar province on Saturday.
