LynuxWorks, Inc. announced that Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) has selected LynuxWorks' LynxOS-SE 5.0 and Luminosity 3.0.6 for the company's Medium Extended Air Defense System. The Medium Extended Air Defense System is designed to replace PATRIOT systems in the United States and Germany and Nike Hercules systems in Italy.
LynxOS-SE is a POSIX-conformant real-time operating system, or RTOS, designed specifically to fulfill the needs of multi-threaded and multi-process applications in high-performance systems.
LynuxWorks noted that LynxOS-SE was chosen in part because it is the first and only time- and space-partitioned, RTOS capable of running POSIX, ARINC-653 and Linux applications simultaneously.
Lockheed Martin will also utilize Luminosity, a Java-based integrated development environment that is based on the open-source Eclipse IDE platform.
