Eight prisoners were killed and several others injured after inmates at the Pul-e-Charkhi jail in Kabul clashed with prison guards during a search operation on Friday, said Afghan authorities.
The officials said that the clashes broke out after some prisoners resisted efforts by the security guards to search their cells on receiving information about a possible jailbreak.
They said that the jail guards were searching for weapons and mobile phones in the jail after getting information that a prison escape was being planned, and added that fifteen people, including three prison guards, were injured in the clashes.
Afghan authorities said that the situation at the jail is now under control, adding that the search operation is currently progressing at the Pul-e-Charkhi prison.
