TranS1 Loss Widens in Q4; Revenues Up - Update

Monday, medical device maker TranS1, Inc. (TSON) reported a wider loss in fourth quarter compared to previous year quarter. Revenues for the quarter, however, were increased.

The Wilmington, North Carolina-based company's net loss for the fourth quarter was $4.53 million or $0.22 per share, wider from a net loss of $2.24 million or $0.14 per share in the same quarter of last year.

On an adjusted basis, net loss for the quarter was $4.15 million or $0.20 per share, compared to a net loss of $1.37 million or $0.07 per share in the year ago quarter.

Revenues for the quarter were $7.4 million, up 48% from $5.0 million in the prior-years quarter. Gross margin for the quarter was 84.7%, an increase from 83.3% in the fourth quarter of last year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a net loss of $0.25 per share on revenues of $6.37 million. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

For the full year period, the company's net loss was $17.0 million or $0.84 per share, wider from $8.6 million or $1.46 per share in the year-ago period.

Revenues for the full year period were $25.3 million, up from $16.5 million in the preceding year period.

TSON closed Monday's regular trading at $5.96, down $0.20 or 3.25% on the Nasdaq.
