Attackers of German ship arrested off Somalia

Seven suspected pirates, who attacked a German supply ship in the Gulf of Aden Sunday, were arrested with the help of European Union (EU) and NATO naval vessels patrolling the waters.

FGS Spessart, a naval tanker serving as a part of a NATO fleet, was fired at about 85 miles north of the Somali port of Bosaso, the EU's Maritime Security Center said.

The German warship returned the fire and pursued the pirates along with other warships patrolling the region.

Greek marines from the EU's anti-piracy fleet took the pirates into custody and transferred them to another German frigate.

The pirates were being held for questioning aboard the warship Rheinland-Pfalz.

Helicopters from German, Dutch, and U.S. warships were also involved in repulsing the attack.

Germany's defense ministry said no one was injured in the incident.
