Governor, 15 Taliban militants killed in Afghanistan

The Taliban has assassinated an Afghan district governor and his three sons Wednesday.

The militants attacked Nader Khan, the district governor of Umni district in southeastern Paktika province, while he was going to Yahyakhel district Wednesday afternoon, reports quoting provincial authorities said.

A civilian passer-by was also killed in the attack, while the governor's fourth son was wounded.

Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack and said they seized weapons and other 'important documents' from Nader Khan's vehicle.

This was the latest in a series of attacks militants launched on Afghan government officials and international forces this year.

Elsewhere in the country, 15 Taliban militants were killed in a five-hour gun battle with Afghan and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Paktia province.
