Trimble buys NTech Industries to expand farming solutions business - Update

Advanced positioning product solutions provider Trimble Navigation Ltd. (TRMB) announced Friday that it has acquired privately-held NTech Industries, based in Ukiah, California. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The company said that the acquisition would further expand its ability to offer innovative field applications for agriculturists.

Trimble added that the crop-sensing technology provider NTech helped farmers cut costs and reduce harm to the environment by controlling the application of nitrogen, herbicide and other crop inputs.

NTech's product, GreenSeeker nitrogen application system, conveys the right amount of nitrogen after determining the health of a plant and its WeedSeeker automatic spot-spray system eliminates weeds by controlled herbicide application.

Erik Arvesen, vice president and general manager for Trimble's Agriculture Division, said, "Trimble's focus is to provide complete agriculture solutions -- from machine guidance and automated steering to application control. The acquisition of NTech gives Trimble customers even more ways to save on fertilizer and herbicide costs while reducing their impact on the environment,"

TRMB closed Thursday at $20.90 on the Nasdaq.
