Nissan North America June Sales Drop 23.1% - Update

Nissan North America, Inc., a subsidiary of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (NSANY) Wednesday reported a huge decline in June sales, as demand of vehicles at Nissan and Infinity division dropped considerably, reflecting the deepening crisis in global economy. Sales of Nissan Division vehicles decreased 21.9%, while sales of Infiniti vehicles decreased 32.3%.

On a combined basis, Nissan North America recorded June sales of 58,298 units, down 23.1% from 75,847 units reported in the same month a year ago.

Total car sales were down 26.5% at 40,172 units, compared to 54,646 units in the year-ago month. Total truck sales dropped 14.5% to 18,126 units from 21,202 units in the year-earlier month.

At the Nissan division, vehicles sold during June dropped 21.9% to 51,994 units from 66,543 units sold in the prior year month. Total car sales of Nissan declined 25.9% to 35,428 units and total truck sales decreased 11.5% to 16,566 units. Sales of Maxima jumped 71.1%, while 370Z grew 11.3% from last year.

At the Infinity division, total sales recorded a decline of 32.3% at 6,304 units, compared to 9,304 vehicles sold in the prior-year month. Total car sales dropped 30.5% and total truck sales were down 37.0%.

NSANY is currently trading at $12.22, up $0.13 or 1.08%, on the Nasdaq.
