Julian Assange will be making a guest appearance on the February 19 episode of "The Simpsons."

The Wikileaks founder—who is currently under house arrest as he appeals his extradition to Sweden over alleged sex offences—recorded his lines for the episode (which marks the 500th episode of the show) from a secret location and plays the Simpson family's new neighbor after they move away from Springfield. "Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean explained: "The Simpsons go off the grid to this very rugged place where they meet [Assange], who's sort of their new Flanders."

Added Jean of the decision to cast Assange after hearing rumors that he wanted to appear on the show: "We asked our casting director Bonnie Pietila - who had been able to unearth Thomas Pynchon and got Tony Blair to do the show - to find Mr Assange. And she did. She wanted to make sure it was satirical, and he was willing to do that."

Assange's next court appearance over extradition charges is on Wednesday.
