Ziopharm Oncology Inc. (ZIOP) announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has accepted its investigational new drug or IND application for the oral dosing of palifosfamide or Zymafos or ZIO-201.
Palifosfamide is a novel DNA cross-linker in class with bendamustine, ifosfamide, and cyclophosphamide.
Palifosfamide is entering into an adaptive Phase 3 trial in extensive small cell lung cancer expected to initiate in the second half of 2012. Clinical study with the oral form, tested preclinically in multiple tumor types, is expected to follow.
