Gainers:

H.J. Heinz Co. (HNZ) is rising over 2 percent to $53.40. The company's third quarter profit improved from the previous year period. Sales rose from the year-ago quarter and were above consensus. The company narrowed its fiscal 2012 earnings per share outlook to the middle of its original range on a reported basis, excluding charges for productivity initiatives.

Campbell Soup Co. (CPB) is up more than 1 percent to $32.50. The company's second quarter profit declined from the prior year period. However, earnings per share were above Wall Street view. The company confirmed its fiscal 2012 guidance, still expecting net sales growth to be between 0 and 2 percent and a decline in adjusted earnings per share of 7 to 5 percent.

Freightcar America, Inc. (RAIL) is gaining over 12 percent to $24.00. The company swung to a profit in its fourth quarter. Revenues jumped from the year-ago quarter. Both earnings per share revenues were sharply above Wall Street view.

Decliners:

General Mills, Inc. (GIS) is falling 3 percent to $38.62 based on its announcement that it expects weak volume performance across U.S. retail food categories in December and January to affect its third quarter results. The company guided adjusted earnings per share below consensus and also lowered its 2012 adjusted earnings per share forecast, which is below consensus.

Gilead Sciences, Inc. (GILD) is plunging over 16 percent to $45.87 based on the data for Genotype 1 Null Responder Hepatitis C patients enrolled in ELECTRON study. The company said the data answer an important question about the use of GS-7977 and ribavirin for the treatment of genotype 1 null responder patients, suggesting that additional direct acting antivirals may be necessary to effectively treat this patient population.

Based on the news about Gilead' setback, Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. (VRTX) is up 10 percent to $41.50. Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ACHN) is up 20 percent to $10.50.

Trading halt:

Trading in shares of NetLogic Microsystems, Inc. (NETL) was halted.
