Bay Street stocks edged up at open Wednesday amid marginal buying across a variety of sectors, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index adding 28.68 points or 0.23 percent to 12,652.04.
In the base-metals space, First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) rose close to 2 percent, Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) and Inmet Mining (IMN.TO) moved up marginally.
In the oil patch, Niko Resources (NKO.TO), Suncor Energy (SU.TO) and Tourmaline Oil (TOU.TO) gained nearly 1 percent each.
Among gold plays, Centerra Gold (CG.TO) gathered over 3 percent.
Eldorado Gold (ELD.TO) edged up 0.50 percent after it said it got shareholders approval to acquire smaller peer European Goldfields (EGU.TO) in a cash-and-stock deal of about C$2.5 billion.
Communications services provider Rogers Communications (RCI_B.TO) added over 1 percent after reporting an improved fourth quarter net income
Retailer Sears Canada (SCC.TO) edged up 0.50 percent despite reporting a much lower fourth quarter net earnings.
