Bruce Springsteen Makes Surprise Appearance At Austin Music Awards

Bruce Springsteen popped up for a surprise appearance at the Austin Music Awards—part of the city's South by Southwest festival—on Wednesday, March 14.

Mid-way during their set at the Austin Music Hall, Joe Ely and Alejandro Escovedo, invited the Boss onto the stage:

"We need one more guitar player," said Ely.

Springsteen provided back up guitar on a few songs and added vocals on a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Beast of Burden" and on Escovedo's "Always a Friend."

The following day Bruce gave the festival's keynote address following in the steps of Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Smokey Robinson and Robert Plant who have done so in the past years.

Bruce's latest studio album, Wrecking Ball, hit shelves on March 6.
