R.E.M.'s Peter Buck Plans Solo Album

Just months after the break up of R.E.M., guitarist Peter Buck is planning a solo album. Buck will team with longtime R.E.M. producer and collaborator Scott McCaughey for the project.

McCaughey offered little detail on the project in a radio interview save for the comment that the material was "pretty out."

Buck's previous solo efforts, including the world music collaborative, Tuatara, the Baseball Project and the Minus 5 have not been particularly well-received.

Buck, an avid record collector and former record store clerk, has been said to be considering a vinyl-only release for the new project.

The other members of the disbanded group, Michael Stipe and Mike Mills, have announced no plans for solo projects. Stipe, however, had a brief cameo on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report earlier this month.
