Tom Morello turned his SXSW performance at Austin, Texas' Swan Dive into an Occupy SXSW event on March 16, prompting local police to shut it down.

The show began as a badge-holder only event, but Morello extended the invitation to all when he moved it to an outside stage, announcing:

"I'm the pied piper of folk rock. I'm going to walk outside . . . follow my guitar."

He continued to lead the crowd in a chorus as police shut down the event.

"Frankly, I play a lot of shows like that, that are very unscripted. Whether it's with the Occupy movement or with different activist-oriented events. There's very little planning, there's often no PA, and the cops often pull the plug. It was a very inspiring night," he later explained.
