President Barrack Obama, who is in South Korea, on Sunday visited the demilitarized zone separating the country from North Korea, amid concerns about a planned rocket launch by Pyongyang.
This was the fourth visit by a U.S. president to the border that separates the Korean peninsula. Bill Clinton, who visited the border in 1993, called it the "Scariest place on Earth."
The president went to an observation post and met the U.S. troops on the tense border. He spent about 10 minutes with the soldiers.
Obama's visit came at a time when North Korea is mourning the death of its great leader Kim Jong-il, who passed away in December. Today marks the 100th day of his demise.
Tension has mounted in the region as North Korea has scheduled to launch a rocket next month, which it says is to put a satellite into orbit. However, this is feared to be a pretext for a missile test.
Obama will attend a security summit in Seoul tomorrow, where around 50 countries will be represented. His talk is expected to include North Korea and Iran.
