Gladys Knight is at work prepping for her role in a new television sitcom.
Speaking with TMZ.com, sources close to the production say she will star as the mother of the President of the United States in a show called the The First Family.
The plot centers on the President's struggle to balance his family life with the business of running the country.
Byron Allen, the show's executive producer and head of the syndication broadcast company Entertainment Studios, was not forthcoming with details, although he did say that "Gladys is truly an American treasure and we're excited to work with her."
There is already interest from a major network and the show could get into production shortly.
Knight is also currently starring on the ABC program Dancing with the Stars.
