Robert Poindexter, lead singer of the 1970s band the Persuaders, claims that Kanye West sampled his track "Trying Girls Out" without his permission. He filed a lawsuit against Ye in a New York court on March 27.
Weezy used the track on a remix of Jay-Z's "Girls, Girls, Girls," which appeared on the 2007 Freshman Adjustment 2 mixtape.
Poindexter claims that Kanye was aware of the track's existence, having cleared a sample of "Trying Girls Out" on an album version of the track.
"By chance, I happened to discover the usage of the illegal version on the internet in 2011," Poindexter claims in his notes.
In mid-March, Kanye settled with soul singer Syl Johnson over a similar claim. The details of West and Jay-Z's settlement with Johnson were not made public.
