Global food prices remained largely unchanged in March, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations said Thursday.

The FAO Food Price Index, which measures the monthly change in international prices of a basket of food commodities, edged up to 216 from February's 215. It is the highest reading since September last year, when the score was 225.

Rising oil prices offset the impact of falling dairy quotations and the largely unchanged prices of cereals, sugar and meat prices, the agency said.
