Malaysia Feb. Industrial Output Growth Quickens Sharply

Malaysia's industrial production increased at a significantly faster pace in in February, data released by the Department of Statistics showed Tuesday.

Industrial output grew 7.5 percent on an annual basis in February, sharply faster than January's revised 0.3 percent increase.

Production in the mining and quarrying sector rose 1.9 percent annually, while manufacturing output climbed 9.4 percent. There was an 11.3 percent annual growth in the production of electricity during the month.

On a monthly basis, industrial production advanced a seasonally adjusted 9.1 percent in February, the agency said.

Separately, the agency said Malaysia's manufacturing sales increased 10.5 percent year-on-year in February, after rising 4.1 percent in January. Compared to January, factory sales grew 0.3 percent during the month.
