Doctor Donald Jay Altfeld, known in pop culture as a co-writer on the Beach Boys classic track "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena," has reportedly surrendered his medical license after being accused of prescribing medication to himself.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, Altfeld was initially denied a prescription in his own name form Xanax and Norco by a pharmacist at Target and eventually asked a patient to fill the prescription in their own name.

Altfeld has suffered a history of mental illness including a stay for inpatient treatment in 2010. The California Medical Board said at that time he was bizarre and illogical; he was rambling, intrusive and very paranoid."

A representative from the medical board spoke with the L.A. Times saying that "there isn't really much more we can do" a doctor who has surrendered their license "other than encourage or counsel him to get help."
