David Bowie served as a source of musical inspiration for alternative/industrial band Garbage as they were recording their fifth album, Not Your Kind Of People.

Lead singer Shirley Manson said that the album is heavily influenced by sounds of the past.

In an interview with UStream, the red haired singer said that instead of drawing inspiration from contemporary artists she turned toward "all [those] people that built my musical fabric" like Bowie.

The group also mentioned Siouxsie Sioux, Cocteau Twins and Suicide as other sources of inspiration.

Garbage will release Not Your Kind Of People on May 14. Recorded in Atwater Village in Los Angeles, the album was produced by Garbage and mixed by the band's drummer Butch Vig.
