Disney has confirmed that their new live action "Sleeping Beauty" prequel "Maleficent" will hit theaters on March 14, 2014. Angelina Jolie will star in the title role, while the film looks back on the antagonist and what made her choose to cast a spell on the young princess.
Jolie had been linked to the role for months before she was confirmed for the lead and admitted to MTV that she was hoping for a chance to play the spell casting part:
"It's all new and being discussed, but I loved her when I was a little girl. She was my favorite."
"It's not anti-princess," Jolie told Entertainment Weekly. "But it's the first time they're looking at this epic woman . . . I hope in the end you see a woman who is capable of being many things, and just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn't mean she can't have other [warmer] qualities."
