Italy's EU harmonized consumer prices increased as previously estimated in March, final data released by statistical office Istat showed Friday.

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) increased 3.8 percent on an annual basis in March, in line with the preliminary estimates. Inflation, however, accelerated from February's 3.4 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices moved up 2.5 percent in March, and matched the initial estimates.

At the same time, the consumer price inflation came in at 3.3 percent during the month, in line with the initial projection. Month-on-month, consumer prices edged up 0.5 percent in March as expected earlier.

Core inflation, adjusted for energy goods and fresh food, rose to 2.3 percent in March from 2.2 percent in February, the agency said.
