"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane has announced that he has put his reboot of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon "The Flintstones" on hold. MacFarlane and Fox announced plans for the new series in 2011 but the animator now says the show will not launch in 2013 as previously expected.

"The very first cartoon character I drew at age two was Fred Flintstone," MacFarlane said in an announcement about the show. "So it's appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise. Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat, stupid guy with a wife who's too good for him."

According to the Huffington Post, MacFarlane has put the series on the back burner to focus on his other projects including "Family Guy," "American Dad," "The Cleveland Show" and his mini-series "Cosmos."
