Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $1.63 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Quarterly operating revenue increased 14 percent in the first quarter 2012 to $5.1 billion versus $4.5 billion in the first quarter 2011. Seventeen analysts had consensus revenue estimate of $4.97 billion for the quarter.
