Metric has released details on its upcoming album Synthetica. The Toronto band says their fifth album will be self-released on June 12 and has been produced by the band's guitarist, Jimmy Shaw.

NME.com quoted Shaw as saying, "Synthetica is the sonic culmination of everything we have done. We've always had a sound in our heads that we hoped to realize. We finally heard it coming out of the speakers this time. It's futuristic and synthesized, yet also organic."

Synthetica will feature artwork from Toronto-based photographer and designer Justin Broadbent. According to Metric frontwoman Emily Haines, Broadbent's images fit the album perfectly.

"We wanted the artwork for Synthetica to be thought provoking and a little disorienting . . . Justin's representation of the natural world seen through a physically impossible window -- or is it a stage? -- struck us immediately as the right cover for this album."

Synthetica is the follow-up to the band's 2009 album Fantasies.
