Thomas Beatie, who is better known as the world's first man to give birth, has separated from his wife of nine years, Nancy.
Beatie announced the news during a taping of the television show "The Doctors." He added that he had undergone a complete female to male gender reassignment surgery.
"Nancy hasn't seen the new me yet," Beatie, 38, says.
"Like all marriages, we have our ups and downs, and we're going through a rough patch right now. At the moment, we're separated."
Beatie, 38, gained fame in 2007 when photos of him, pregnant and bearded, circulated around the world. He was born female and kept his reproductive organs when he had a sex change operation in 1998.
He had been living in Bend, Oregon with his wife and three kids: daughter Susan and sons Austin and Jensen.
