CH Robinson Worldwide Inc. (CHRW: Quote) reported that its first-quarter net income increased to $106.50 million or $0.65 per share, up from $97.03 million or $0.59 per share in the same quarter last year. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.65 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Total revenues for the quarter rose to $2.55 billion from $2.37 billion in the prior year quarter. Seventeen analysts had consensus revenue estimate of $2.60 billion for the quarter.

After reporting a sharp drop in new orders for manufactured durable goods in the previous month, the Commerce Department released a report on Friday showing that durable goods orders rebounded by more than anticipated in the month of April. The report said durable goods orders surged up by 3.3 percent in April after tumbling by a revised 5.9 percent in March.
