George Harrison's Widow Talks About Early Demos And Archive

The widow of former Beatle George Harrison recently sat down to discuss a new collection of demo recordings by her late husband. Olivia Harrison was joined by Giles Martin, son of Beatles producer George Martin, who also helped compile the works.

The project commenced when Martin Scorsese began putting together a documentary on Harrison titled Living in the Material World. Olivia and Giles were tasked with finding the music from the Harrison archives for the film, which then led to compiling an accompanying album, titled Early Takes, Vol. 1.

Despite the archives being "a massive mess," as Harrison's widow described them to Spinner.com, the two waded through the tapes at their disposal.

"We would sit in Friar Park [Harrison's estate] and go through tapes and run-throughs. We would filter things based on whether they showed George off, finding the right sort of sound for various things."

Both the DVD documentary and album were released May 1.
