European Economics Preview: Eurozone Retail Sales Data Due

Retail sales and final Purchasing Managers' survey from euro area are the major reports due on Friday.

At 3.15 am ET, the Federal Statistical Office is slated to release Swiss retail sales for March. Economists forecast sales to grow 1.1 percent year-on-year in March after rising 0.8 percent in February.

At the same time, Spain's Services PMI for April is due. In March, the index for the service sector rose to 46.3 from 41.9 in February.

Final Purchasing Managers' survey results are due at 4.00 am ET. Eurozone final composite PMI is expected to match flash estimate of 47.4 in April.

In the meantime, Norway's unemployment figure for February is due. The jobless rate is expected remain flat at 3.2 percent in February.

At 5.00 am ET, Eurostat is set to publish retail sales for March. Eurozone retail sales are forecast to fall 1.1 percent annually in March, following a 2.1 percent drop in February. On a monthly basis, retail sales are forecast to remain flat in March.

The European Central Bank became the first major central bank to move in response to the rising inflationary pressures in the backdrop of the conflict in the Middle East. In North America, the U.S. inflation and trade data as well as Canada’s central bank decision gained attention. The Chinese trade data was the main news in Asia.
