Two British soldiers have been killed in an enemy attack on their base in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, Britain's Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed Friday.
According to the MoD, the two soldiers killed in an enemy mortar rocket attack on the Forward Operating Base Ouellette in the Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand province.
The ministry said the two deceased soldiers were from the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) and attached to 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh Battlegroup. Without naming the two men, the Mod said their families have been informed about their loss.
The death of the two soldiers on Friday takes the total number of British soldiers killed in Afghanistan since the 2001 US-led invasion to 412.
Earlier in the day, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan had announced the death of two of its service members in a militant attack in the south of the war-torn nation.
Nevertheless, ISAF press release did not disclose the victims' nationality in line with its policy of deferring casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities. It is not clear whether IASF was referring to the same case.
