Prince Harry received the 2012 Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership Award in Washington, D.C. on Monday, May 7. The award, given out by the Atlantic Council, was given for Harry's work with military veterans and enlisted men and women through he and his brother's Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

It was the first visit to the U.S. capital, where he accepted the honor on behalf of both he and his brother—the latter of whom could not be in attendance.

The award was presented by General Colin Powell, who praised Harry's good works:

"Prince Harry has wholeheartedly continued the royal tradition of advocating on behalf of society's less-fortunate members. Through his efforts, he restores confidence to those who have been wounded in service to his country."

Bill Clinton and Bono have both received the Leadership Award in the past.
