Bay Street stocks moved down at open Friday amid selling in commodities, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index shedding 58.25 points or 0.50 percent to 11,677.92.
The Diversified Materials Index lost close to 2 percent, with First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) and Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) losing around 1 percent each.
In the oil patch, Suncor Energy (SU.TO) and Enbridge Inc. (ENB.TO) were down close to 2 percent each.
Among gold plays, Detour Gold (DGC.TO) was down nearly 5 percent. Allied Nevada Gold (ANV.TO), Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) and Goldcorp. (G.TO) were down around 2 percent each.
Canadian stock market operator TMX Group Inc. (X.TO) reported a lower first-quarter net income
Meanwhile, Savanna Energy (SVY.TO) gained over 5 percent.
