Mad Men producers shelled out a quarter-million dollars in order to get the rights to the Beatles track "Tomorrow Never Knows" for use in one of their episodes.
The New York Daily News reports that, should the deal have fallen through, the script would have been re-written. The song plays an integral role in the episode.
Don Draper, the lead man, listens to the track, the last on the Fab Four's Revolver, in a bid at understanding the spirit of the 1960s.
"Whatever people think, this is not about money," creator Matthew Weiner said in a recent New York Times interview. "It never is. They are concerned about their legacy and their artistic impact."
The episode marks the first time a Beatles track was used in a television show.
