Protestors have hit the streets in Syria in a demonstration against the bombings in Damascus on Thursday. The protests have been anything but peaceful, with gunfire from troops leaving five wounded in the capital city.

Around the country, protests were held in Helfaya, Aleppo, and other areas, where citizens were killed in the protests.

"My family is panicking," a source on the ground in Damascus told RTTNews. "We are asking for prayers."

In a press briefing at the U.S. State Department Thursday, spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said an increased number of international monitors are needed to establish international support and peace in Syria.

However, despite the presence of international monitors, violence is only escalating. So far, the Annan peace plan is also showing signs of failure as both sides - Assad's army and Syrian rebels - are accusing each other of not honoring the cease-fire.

Western powers remain grounded on the position that the peace plan is still the best option, while others believe the peace plan has been outright ignored and other options need to be discussed. With the plan failing, fears are rising over the possibility of long and treacherous civil war in Syria.

Protestors also voiced their resentment of the United Nations for not stopping the violence in Syria and calling on military forces from around the world to intervene immediately.

The violence has also been affecting thousands of innocents at the hands of both, rebels and Assad forces. Qatar, Russia, the European Union, the United States, and Kofi Annan have all condemned the recent bombings in Syria.
